Leea indica (Leeaceae), commonly known as ‘Huo Tong Shu’ in Malaysia, have been traditionally used as natural remedy in folk medicine by the locals. Leea indica (Burm.f) Merr is a well-known traditional Chinese medicine. Leea indica have multiple pharmacological activities like antitumour, analgesic, antiviral, sedative and anxiolytic and thrombolytic activities. It has long been used as a folk medicine for the treatment of cardiac diseases, diabetes, fever, headache, dizziness, soreness, eczema, sprain, leprosy, bone fracture, body pain, muscle spasms, diarrhoea, dysentery, antihyperglycemic and hypolipidemic activity. The current review attempts to encompass the available literature on Leea indica with respect to its phytochemistry, traditional uses and gist of its various pharmacological activities.
